Dana Elizabeth Jones was born on March 8, 2008. She was 11 years old. She was a perfectly healthy girl who loved to play basketball, chess, board games, loved to draw and make slime. Dana also loved to dance. On Oct 16, 2019 while heading back home with my mother in law she stopped to get lunch. When they got on the bus, she threw up. She got home and the vomiting continued. She was also complaining of a headache. When we got off work we decided to take her to the urgent care thinking she may have had food poisoning from eating out the day before. As we walked in to the urgent care she bags feeling weak and her body gave out, with me carrying her in and the nurse running to me with a wheelchair. Dr saw her and her vitals were fine, she became alert again. Meds given and dr said it was possible food poising as well. But told us to take her to the ER bc she possibly was dehydrated from vomiting all day and not eating. We did that. As we walked in to the ER entrance, she collapses again. She is rushed in to the resus room and is worked up by all the drs and nurses. She become saltwater again and is just telling the dr her head is pounding. She is still vomiting. 15 min later the dr comes to us and let’s us know her blood work came back fine, but the cat scan came back abnormal. A mass the size of a golf ball was found in her brain right behind the right ear. After 6 seizures, intubation, surgery, 7 days in ICU, 2 days on a reg floor, she always discharged home. Halloween we were told the mass was an aggressive stage 4 tumor and radiation would be needed. Due to its location it was difficult to remove all of the tumor so radiation would finish the process. Nov. 19, 2019 she began her 30 treatments of radiation (5 days a week). She would complain of leg pains a week after that was told it was due to the steroids being given. Two weeks after radiation began her hair began to fall out. She finished her treatments Jan 9, 2020. That weekend we would be in the ER again with her having headaches, leg and neck pains. January 13th the dr called me telling me to bring her in so he can see her and evaluate her for a day. January 16th, we were told the cancer had spread to the spine and that’s more than likely why she was having neck and leg pains. That night she asks me to go to the bathroom. As we are walking out her legs start to give out again. I guide her to sit on the bathroom garbage can and she has 2 seizures. She is taken up to ICU again. Her asking me to take her to the bathroom were the last words my baby told me. She passed at 12:26 on January 17th. My life has never been the same. The pain my heart has is indescribable. I miss my babygirl so much.
